SPIRIT Training Project (Glasgow)

Project: The Structured Psychosocial InteRventions in Teams (SPIRIT) course

Target group: Staff working in primary care and also mental health services across Glasgow

Settings:  Older adult and adult teams, including alcohol services and occupational health

Intervention: Trains staff over 8 3.5 hour sessions plus accompanying practice and review sessions, to introduce and support the use of five areas CBT self-help resources

Support offered: Workshop-style sessions, slides, discussion, role play and use of trained actors/mock patients.

Outcomes: The results showed that by the end of training practitioners’ subjective and objective knowledge improved, which was sustained 3 months later. Satisfaction with the canadian online gambling training was high. The SPIRIT course increases access to CBT based self-help, is evidence based and is used in everyday clinical practice.

What else? The program has three seconded trainers (one day a week) and has been funded by NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde since 2000.
