Bounce Back (BB), delivered by the The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is offering Living Life to the Full (LLTTF) in two forms. The first is the LLTTF DVD (available in English, Mandarin and Cantonese) providing practical tips on how to recognize and deal with depressive symptom. The second service is the use of Overcoming Depression Book with telephone coaching (available in English, French and Cantonese).
Bounce Back is led by the BC Division of the CMHA and funded by the BC Ministry of Health. The CMHA is a nation-wide organization and one of the oldest voluntary organizations in Canada.
Each year over 1,600 physicians refer their patients to this program that provides direct coaching and support to over 5,000 British Columbians. In the five and a half years since Bounce Back began more than 115,000 DVDs have been distributed and over 25,000 patient referrals have been made.
Depression & Anxiety symptoms were measured Pre Bounce Back and Post Bounce Back. The results showed that depression and anxiety symptoms were reduced by half, there were also significant improvements in life-enjoyment & physical-health ratings. Over 90% rate their experience of BB as ‘good’ or ‘very good’, and report that they are that likely to recommend BB to a friend or family member.
Due to such good results Bounce Back was the recipient of the Doctors of BC, Excellence in Health Promotion Award – Nonprofit category! Find out more about the award: https://www.doctorsofbc.ca/about-bcma/awards.
